What is the Breath Learning Center?

The Breath Learning Center is a place to discover your true nature with simple breath practices and wisdom meditations. It is not a specific method but rather a generalized approach that works within any breathing, meditation, or spiritual tradition.

Why is It Called the “Breath” Learning Center?

Breath is the center point because it’s the common denominator among all contemplative practices. How we breathe influences our mental states, our energy and outlook, and our overall sense of connection and belonging in this world. Thus, directly or indirectly, breath plays a central role in the benefits of all contemplative practice. This makes breathing the ideal start and end point for uncovering our highest self.

How the Learning Center Works

You can use the information in the Learning Center however you want.

But to experience the most meaningful change, here is how I suggest using it:

Step One:

First thing in the morning, you perform a breath or meditation practice, preferably involving slow breathing. You can choose your own or use one provided in the Learning Center.

Step Two:

Right after your practice, you read the daily Wisdom Meditation attentively to plant a seed of insight that will grow throughout the day.

Step Three:

You occasionally explore books, scientific papers, or workshops relevant to your situation using the Learning Center’s vast array of Book 411s, Science 411s, and Workshops.

That’s it. Following these three steps patiently and consistently will help you slowly uncover your true nature and highest self.

The Learning Center allows us to shape our lives through mindful breathing and the reading of timeless wisdom and modern science. But for our approach, I think pottery might be an even better analogy:

  1. Slow, mindful breathing calms the mind and nervous system, much like adding water to clay to make it malleable.

  2. Reading timeless wisdom and science allows us to shape our lives into what we want.

  3. Real-life practice hardens this shaping into our very being.


A Breakdown of Exactly What You Get as a Member

The Breathing 1%:

This is the heart of the Learning Center. It’s a short daily wisdom meditation (“wisdom meditation” is a fancy word for short reading) that takes 30 seconds or less to read but is a critical seed to start your day mindfully.

Books and Science Papers

Go deeper with the bi-weekly Book 411 and Science 411 publications. Book 411s summarize the most practical wisdom from the best books on breathing, mindfulness, and better living. Science 411s summarize important studies from contemplative science, providing practical takeaways from each paper.

Transformative Workshops

Nick Heath, Ph.D.

Nick Heath, Ph.D., is a scientist, researcher, and writer living with type-1 diabetes. Nick’s formal education is in atmospheric science, but he has spent the last 7+ years studying, teaching, and applying breathing principles in his life and with others.
